Step 1: Creating your development application

1. Sign Up
   Register for your development application.

   • For Clever Single Sign-On, Clever Secure Sync, or Clever LMS Connect access, contact: [email protected].

2. Sandbox Environment

   • The development application is designed to work with sandbox district environments.
   • Live district data access requires Clever certification.
   • Clever certification ensures your application meets core development requirements for live school district connections. Learn more in the Certification Overview.

3. Multi-Application Integration

   • For multi-application integration, contact: [email protected] to provision a multi-application environment.

Step 2: SSO into the applications dashboard

1. Default Access
   Clever provides default access to the applications dashboard by creating accounts with individual passwords. Your username will be set as your email upon sign-up, and your password will be set by you upon accepting the invite to your account.

2. SSO Configuration
   Clever also provides optional Dashboard SSO to keep your account more secure.

   • SSO is configured via SAML connection.
   • During setup and testing, admin user password access remains available, and can remain available after setup by request.
   • After SSO verification, password logins will be disabled by default (unless otherwise specified) to manage all access through SSO.

Step 3: Complete your build

Your development team will follow the guides and recommendations in these dev docs to build a Clever-integrated app.

Step 4: Submit your app for certification

Once your build is complete and ready to go live on Clever, you will submit your app for certification. You can read more about our certification process here: Certification Overview
